Fanny Yuen Fan Wong

MSW, RSW (Alberta, Ontario, British Columbia)
Certified Emotionally Focused Therapist (EFIT, EFCT, EFFT)

I’m a Registered Social Worker with over 20 years of clinical experience supporting individuals, couples, and families through emotional challenges, relationship struggles, and significant life transitions. I provide virtual counselling across Alberta, Ontario, and British Columbia in English, Cantonese, and Mandarin. In-person sessions in Calgary are also available upon request.

Clients often seek my support for couples and marriage challenges, parenting stress, anxiety, emotional overwhelm, attachment-related concerns, childhood or intergenerational trauma, and ADHD-related difficulties.

As a Certified Emotionally Focused Therapist (ICEEFT), certified in EFT for individuals, couples, and families (EFIT, EFCT, and EFFT), my work is grounded in attachment science and evidence-based practice. I’m passionate about helping people feel emotionally understood, safe, and securely connected both within themselves and in their relationships. My approach is warm, collaborative, and steady, with a focus on meaningful and lasting change.

My Journey

My path into counselling began in my late teens during a difficult season in my family. When my father experienced a stroke, the compassionate support we received from social workers left a lasting impression and shaped my desire to walk alongside others through times of uncertainty, pain, and transition.

I later completed both my Bachelor and Master of Social Work, with specialized training in family-centered practice and family therapy. Over the years, I have worked in family service and school settings, supporting youth, adults, couples, and families navigating emotional struggles, relationship challenges, trauma, grief, and major life transitions.

After relocating to Canada, I deepened my clinical training in Emotionally Focused Therapy (EFT) and became certified through the International Centre for Excellence in Emotionally Focused Therapy (ICEEFT). This attachment-based approach reflects what I have long believed: when people feel emotionally understood and safe, meaningful change becomes possible.

Over time, I have seen that when individuals heal, relationships grow stronger, and families are better able to thrive together. This belief is why I am especially drawn to couples and family counselling. Small shifts in emotional understanding can rebuild trust, strengthen communication, and create lasting connection within marriages and families.

As a mother of two, I also bring a lived understanding of the emotional complexity of parenting. Supporting individuals, couples, and families as they strengthen emotional safety and connection is not only my professional focus; it is work I care about deeply.

My Approach to Therapy

My work is grounded in an integrative, evidence-informed, and attachment-based approach. I primarily use Emotionally Focused Therapy (EFT), alongside trauma-informed care and family systems perspectives, to support individuals, couples, and families seeking meaningful and lasting change.

Therapy with me is a safe, steady, and collaborative space. Together, we explore emotional and relationship patterns that may be contributing to distress. We gently identify what may be keeping you stuck and support new ways of responding that feel more secure, connected, and aligned with your values. We move at a pace that feels manageable, with emotional safety at the center of the work.

Emotionally Focused Therapy (EFT)

Emotionally Focused Therapy, developed by Dr. Sue Johnson, is a well-researched, attachment-based approach used in individual, couples, and family therapy. EFT helps us understand how emotions and attachment needs shape our inner experiences and our closest relationships.

Some people worry EFT means “talking about feelings all the time.” In practice, it is structured, practical and focused on identifying recurring emotional patterns that create distress. For there, we work toward safer and more connected ways of responding both emotionally and relationally.

I offer EFT across different modalities:

  • Emotionally Focused Individual Therapy (EFIT)
Strengthens emotional awareness and regulation while building resilience, confidence, and self-compassion.
  • Emotionally Focused Couples Therapy (EFCT)
Helps couples identify recurring interaction cycles, improve communication, rebuild trust, and deepen emotional connection.
  • Emotionally Focused Family Therapy (EFFT)
Supports families in recognizing relational patterns, strengthening communication, reducing conflict, and increasing emotional safety within the family system.

Trauma-Informed & Attachment-Based Approaches

Alongside EFT, I integrate trauma-informed and attachment-based approaches. This means therapy honors how past experiences, including childhood or relational trauma, can shape present emotions, behaviors, and relationship patterns.

We explore these patterns gently and respectfully, without rushing the process. The focus is on building emotional safety, increasing self-understanding, and creating healthier ways of connecting with yourself and others.
